Building a vacuum hold down table for my Avid CNC machine

If you own an industrial CNC machine (as we do as well) this will not be something you need to do, as they come with a plenum table from the factory. Even though we also use a larger CNC machine in our shop, there is certainly always a place in our shop for the 2 AVID's we own, as they are primarily setup to cut lighter duty products.

In this video I quickly talk about the steps taken to build a vacuum hold down table for my Avid CNC Router:

Table Layers: 1” HDF glued and screwed to the 80/20 frame 3/4” MDF used for the milled plenum layer 3/4” ultralight used for the “sacrificial layer” Manifold and piping: The manifold was made using 3” PVC All other pipe and fittings is made with 2” PVC Black Box Hurricane Vac System & blast gates.

On more of a personal note about the AVID CNC routers, we have been running them since about 2017. One benefit to having AVID machines is that you assemble them yourself. Yes, I said benefit... When you assemble something yourself, you tend to intimately learn it, in and out. So, WHEN something breaks, you will have the knowledge to fix it.

I will add, that if you plan to run your AVID regularly, you may want to keep some of the wearing parts on hand. The following are a list of items we keep on hand in case something breaks down. There is nothing worse than needing you machine and having to wait for parts to show up. Consider it an insurance policy and piece of mind to eliminate down time.

I have also purchased wires and an additional stepper motor, but have never needed to replace them.
