Brian Way presentation at Lean Summit 2015 at FastCap

I was fortunate to be part of about 50 presenters invited to the Lean Summit at FastCap in WA.  What an awesome learning experience it was to be part of this.  Many of us have joined a public group on FaceBook called LEAN PURSUIT.  We are able to share our experiences & stay connected with each other.  Please join the group if you would like to learn more about LEAN!

Paul Akers key note speach at the Lean Summit 2015

Paul Akers is the owner of FastCap Company in WA. Many of us had the honor of attending the Lean Summit 2015 that he & his wife LeeAnne  so graciously hosted at both his house & place of business.  Many lives (and businesses) are changed because of it.  We look forward to implementing much of what was learned by all of the awesome presenters! Remember, stop the struggle! Owners, get on the shop floor! Paul discusses his new APP called LEAN PD. (Lean Personal Development) Remember, the key to being a Lean Leader, you must change yourself!  Links will be posted as they become available.

The Amazing FastCap!

Here is a project we installed about 3 years ago.  The curved panels seem to be pulling away from the walls, unsure exactly why, but is possibly due to them being unbalanced with finish from the front to the back. We used a variety of FastCap products to fix this problem.

As you can see, the panel is pulling away from the wall (with quite a bit of force)

We used a FastCap 3rd hand pole to apply force back to the wall.

Then we used the FastCap FlushMount Drillbit system to countersink for the Powerhead screws

We used 3 1/2″ Powerhead screws to screw through the face of the panel. Although we did not want to do this, It was really the easiest way out and screwing into the backside of the MDF panel would not be strong enough.

Now the fun part… This is a stained cherry veneer panel. I actually used a PVC FastCap, darkened it up with a Mohawk marker, and voila! It nearly disappeared!

Check out the finished product below! Simply Amazing!

Certainly one of my favorite FastCap fixes of all time!

A Big THANK YOU to Paul Akers of FastCap for producing such innovative products!

What have you stuck lately?

There are a few things that work as nicely as FastCap  SpeedTape, here are a few small projects I did with them lately.

SpeedTape is FastCap’s high performance ultra-bond adhesive in a peel and stick roll! Apply SpeedTape to almost anything you want to stick in place. Peel off the liner and stick it! If you have a peel and stick application, SpeedTape is the answer. I keep this stuff in every tool bag I have, its great!

If you prefer to purchase on ebay, here is the link: SPEEDTAPE

I installed LED lighting under the cabinets. I used it to adhere the aluminum channel to the wood surface.

I created a magnetic chalk board; Cut a piece of 1/16 inch steel, sprayed it with the chalk board paint, and adhered it using the speedtape to the painted wood panel.

This is a fantastic use of space to allow menus for the week or kids school clippings.

Another cool thing you can do SpeedTape is use it on the Schluter Jolly for tile edging. It really speeds up the process of giving you a finish look to your tile backsplash.

All done!

Fastcap SpeedBrace

The Speedbrace by Fastcap is an extremely unique and strong design. It comes in black, white, primed, and stainless steel. As you can see in the photos, a 1 1/2″ aluminum angle was used as a continuous wall cleat. Of coarse wood can also be used, but many times the angle (although more costly) is both stronger and faster to install. There are 2 per drilled holes for your wire management too! The Speedbrace adds a touch of modern design and keeps the structural integrity without breaking the bank.
